Every day, children enter into the foster care system for many reasons. Some of those include abuse, neglect, caregiver addictions, or even the loss of a parent. On average, nine children enter into the foster care system every day in Alabama.

Recent Dawson Orphan Care events and your feedback have allowed us to learn how our church family can become involved with Orphan Care in and around Jefferson County. After prayerful consideration, we are happy to share that a new Orphan Care Ministry will be launched this fall.

Many of you have already expressed an interest in serving in this ministry. In preparation for the kick off of this new ministry, a leadership team will be assembled over the next several weeks. There will be multiple opportunities to serve under the Orphan Care Ministry umbrella (WRAP Ministry, CASA support, mentoring, and more). Additional information will be shared about those opportunities at a later date.

We are praying that the Lord will allow our Family of Faith to have a significant impact on the children of Jefferson County in the months and years to come! Please continue to ask the Lord how He would like for you to serve.

TIPS Certification Class

A TIPS certification class (Trauma Informed Partnering for Safety and Performance) will be offered at Dawson this Winter/Spring. Classes begin on Tuesday, January 15 and end on April 2. This 10-week course is the first step in becoming certified to be a foster or adoptive parent. Please note, if you are married, both spouses must be certified, however you do not need to be married (i.e. single households) to foster or adopt.
