Church Family,

The COVID-19 situation continues to change rapidly. On Thursday afternoon, March 12, the Jefferson County Department of Health issued a recommendation that all public events with 500 or more people be canceled.

There will be no on-campus activities this Sunday, March 15. Instead, we will worship exclusively online at http://live.dawsonchurch.org/. We feel this is the best way to honor the county’s request, love one another, and faithfully offer our worship to God. You can watch the service at any time Sunday.

COVID-19 does not stop the mission of the church. Our faithful giving goes to further Kingdom work here locally and around the world. Remember you can continue to give your tithe and offerings at https://www.dawsonchurch.org/giving or mail them to 1114 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, AL 35209. As of now the church offices and staff will continue with normal operating hours.

March 12, 2020
10:00 a.m.

Church Family,

By now, all of us are aware of the COVID-19 situation unfolding both nationally and globally. Please join us in praying for those who are affected by this illness.  In a time of fear and crisis, we need to be reminded that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.

We wanted to share with you Dawson’s plan for taking proactive steps in regards to our church in the days to come. Please understand that we are not in a position to be a source of information about COVID-19, nor a source of medical advice. We recommend visiting the website for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization for the most updated information regarding COVID-19.  Remember that all medical advice should come from qualified medical professionals.

Our current plan is to continue gathering together weekly for worship, Life Groups, and midweek ministries. This is an ever-evolving situation and changes by the hour. We may make slight adjustments to our regular gatherings if we deem them necessary. We will be paying very close attention to the recommendations from our local authorities, especially the Alabama Department of Public Health. Our Dawson Day School will also continue to align with the plans of the Homewood City School system, as we do in all matters.

In regard to mission trips and other Dawson travel, we are monitoring each trip on a case-by-case basis. We have already changed some mission trip plans for the near future. Our goal is to be patient and measured in order to continue our mission efforts as safely and effectively as we are able. As this situation continues to unfold, we will be in touch with team members who are currently signed up for these planned mission trips.

On our church campus, we are continuing to utilize good cleaning practices and other measures to help prevent the spread of germs and viruses. You will likely also notice additional measures in our church gatherings. These practices include:

  • Cleaning and sanitizing our buildings thoroughly with special attention given to frequently touched surfaces.
  • Making available hand sanitizer stations throughout our campus for everyone to use.
  • Monitoring the news and staying up to date with our city, state, and federal guidelines.

Additionally, we recommend the following practices for our members and guests:

  • Adherence to our Sick Child Policy: Children should be symptom and fever-free for 24 hours prior to attending church.
  • Using verbal greetings and fist bumps instead of handshakes.
  • Washing your hands with soap and water frequently.
  • If you are sick, please stay home.

We will continue to update you regarding Dawson gatherings and activities through email, as well as these social media platforms:

Lastly, here are three ways to stay connected with Dawson should the need arise:

  1. You can watch the livestream of our worship services on Facebook or by going to live.dawsonchurch.org.
  2. You can give online or by text by going to dawsonchurch.org/giving.
  3. You can communicate with us at 205-871-7324 or by visiting dawsonchurch.org/contact-us.

We certainly don’t want you to be worried about COVID-19, just prudent. Remember that God has not called us to live in fear but in faith. Even as we try to exercise wisdom in these circumstances, we trust in our sovereign God, who is working all things according to the counsel of His will and that He is in absolute control.

In Christ,

Brad Gowing
Executive Pastor
