He Is Risen!
Luke 24:1–12

This week, Dr. David Eldridge shared a celebratory Easter message of our risen Savior from the book of Luke. In this message he described the hope that we have through two points:

  • Our failures can be forgiven.
  • Our future can be secure.

GOING DEEPER:

  • The female disciples of Jesus came to His tomb to anoint His body on that first Easter morning. They were experiencing grief upon grief and hoped to find closure in this last act of reverence and love. Using your biblical imagination, put yourself in the place of these heartbroken followers of Jesus. How do you feel?

  • The angels deliver the news: He is not here, but has risen. They were stunned and tried to make sense of this most important sentence ever uttered in human history. What does the good news of the angels mean for your daily life?

  • Pastor David explained that the empty tomb means that our failures can be forgiven. Sin is falling short of God’s standards, and our sin means separation from God and ultimately, death. But the good news of Easter is that Jesus died on the cross to redeem us from the curse of sin. How can you change your schedule this week to make more time to reflect on this gift and then praise God for His precious gift of salvation in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross? How can you live more joyfully this week in light of the forgiveness of your sins?

  • Jesus paid for our sin. This is our only hope in the face of our sinfulness. The good news of Easter is that Jesus’ resurrection was the verification that God had accepted Jesus’ sacrifice as the payment for our sin. When do your actions and habits say to God, “Let me do it (on my own)”? In what ways are you tempted to rely on your good works or good intentions instead of Jesus’ finished work on the cross for you?

  • Pastor David also shared that the empty tomb means that our future can be secure. Death doesn’t get the last word in our lives. The resurrection breaks the power of death. The resurrection of Jesus promised for all of us who are in Christ that there is coming a day when He will wipe away every tear from our eyes and will make all things new again. Have you turned your “can” into a “will”? Has there been a time in your life when you have received the gift of salvation in Jesus?
