All That He Has Done
Joshua 4
This week, Dr. David Eldridge shared a timely passage from Joshua 4.
GOING DEEPER:
-
Pastor David spoke about a time of transition in the life of the nation of Israel. As you read through Joshua 4:1–9 for the first time, what stands out to you? As you read it slowly a second time, what truths or insights does the Holy Spirit reveal to your heart and mind?
-
In Joshua 4, God’s people were moving toward the Promised Land. When God stopped the water and everyone crossed to the other side with the Promised Land right before them, God told His people to look backward before they moved forward. Pastor David explained this was because God knew something about His people that is just as true for us: We are all prone to forgetfulness when it comes to the faithfulness of God in our lives. What circumstances tempt you to forget God’s faithfulness to you?
-
Because the memory of God’s provision can be lost so quickly, God gave His people something tangible to do. They gathered twelve stones that would serve as markers/reminders of God’s faithfulness to them and to future generations. The stones reminded them that there was a time when they didn’t know if they were going to be able to get across; but God made a way for them, as He does for us. The memory of God’s faithfulness in the past was meant to give them faith to trust Him in whatever was waiting for them in the future. What are the “twelve stones” in your life that call you to remember God’s faithfulness? How can you change your schedule this week to spend more time praising God for who He is and thanking Him for His faithfulness in your life?
- As the Dawson Family of Faith, we are experiencing a transition from worshiping in the Family Recreation Center to worshiping again in our renovated Sanctuary. Pastor David reminded us of God’s faithfulness over the past 15 months. He encouraged our Family of Faith to never forget what God has done. He invited us to remember that God is still stacking stones. What are you thankful for during these past 15 months as a part of the Dawson Family of Faith? In what ways can you praise God for how He empowered and used us to be a part of His extraordinary work?
