Follow Me
John 1:35–42
This week, Dr. David Eldridge continued the series from the Gospel of John. In these verses, he expanded on three points:
- The Witness of John the Baptist: The Power of Biblical Preaching
- The Witness of Andrew: The Power of Personal Testimony
- The Witness of Jesus: The Power of a Personal Invitation
GOING DEEPER:
- Pastor David shared that God can and has used different strategies to share the Gospel at different times and places. While God uses imperfect people and imperfect means, He is always in the business of drawing people to Himself. How did you hear the Gospel and come to faith in Jesus? If you have not made the decision to follow Jesus, how can you reach out to someone this week to talk?
- For 2000 years, God has used the proclamation of Jesus in preaching to be one of the primary ways that people are introduced to Him. In churches or city squares or open fields, the message remains the same, “Behold the Lamb of God” (John 1:35–37; Romans 10:14–15). Who can you invite to come to church with you this coming Sunday to hear the message about Jesus?
- Pastor David shared that Andrew showed us the power of personal testimony. We do not see a public preaching from Andrew, but we know that he loved to bring others to Jesus. He was a “connector.” God puts us in families and gives us friends so that we have opportunities to bring others before Jesus. Do you have a burden for those closest to you that are far from God? Do you look for opportunities to share the hope that is with you? Do you pray specifically for them?
- In John 1:39, Jesus invited all of us to “come and see.” Pastor David shared that Jesus invited everyone to discover personally the Savior that He is, and He will never turn us away. How can God use you this week to point people to Jesus through your words and actions? With whom can you share your personal testimony of the difference Jesus has made in your life?
