Sermon Title: The Forgotten Faithful

Scripture: Exodus 1

This week, Pastor David began the first of three sermon series in Exodus. We will cover the entire book over the course of the next three years. In the coming months, we will walk with Moses and the Israelites from their enslavement in Egypt to the parting of the Red Sea. The other series will begin in the spring of 2022 and the spring of 2023.

From Exodus 1 this morning, we learned these truths:

1. Leaders come and go; dynasties rise and fall; but God’s reign endures forever.

2. God often uses unlikely people to accomplish His sovereign plan.

Going Deeper:

1. Pastor David shared that he had a healthy fear and reverence for his grandfather. In your life, who do you “fear”? How does that compare to the “fear” you have for God and His commands?

2. In Exodus 1, the most powerful person in Egypt is overshadowed by the obedience of two Hebrew midwives. How does this truth encourage you?

3. While you may not be asked to die for your faith in God, you will likely be asked to die to personal ambitions, opportunities and comfort as you serve God. What would a life of “costly obedience” look like for you? Are you willing to make the sacrifice(s) for that kind of obedience to God?

4. Pastor David shared that principle based on Exodus 1: On the other side of your discomfort is always delight in Christ. How have you found that true in your life? How can you use this truth to strengthen yourself?

Additional Discovery:

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. ~ Ephesians 3:20–21
