Trusting God
Proverbs 3:1–6
This week, Dr. David Eldridge continued the series Proverbs. In these verses, he explains four key instructions for life:
- Build Your Life On The Foundation Of God's Truth
- Trust The Lord With All Your Heart
- Lean Not On Your Own Understanding
- Acknowledge Him In All Your Ways
GOING DEEPER:
• God’s Word teaches us to build our lives on the foundation of His truth (Proverbs 3:1–4). While we are often tempted to live our lives “our way,” Pastor David encouraged us to allow God’s Word to penetrate beyond just our heads and let it shape our hearts. When you let your life be ordered by God’s wisdom, it will be marked by peace with God, peace with yourself, and peace with others. In what areas of your life are you living as if you have misplaced God’s Word in a cluttered corner of your heart?
• In this passage, God invites us to trust in Him with all our hearts. The Hebrew word for “trust” means to lie down—to put your entire weight on something. God invites us to put our full weight on Him. He will not fail us, and He cannot fail us. Do you believe He can hold the weight of anything that comes your way? In what areas of your life are you living with your fingers crossed behind your back to the Lord?
• Pastor David said that while it is good and right to make plans, weigh options, and seek wise counsel, our ultimate trust is not in our ability to figure everything out (verse 5). We are finite, but God is never surprised, stumped, confused, or caught off guard by any circumstance, problem, challenge, or pain that comes into our lives. What circumstance or pain in your life is tempting you to lean on our own understanding instead of on the character of God who is sovereign, good, and wise?
• Pastor David shared that Proverbs 3:6 is a call to surrender our lives to God—to let God have His way in every aspect of your life without exception or reservation. While “the straight path” doesn’t always mean short or easy or even understandable, walking in the will of God means your life heads in a straight line no matters how the road curves. In what area of your life do you need to make a decision right now? How can you change your schedule this week
to make more time for silence, reflection, and prayer, listening to God and for His direction?
