SERMON SERIES: The Gospel of Mark

SERMON TITLE: Where Is Jesus During The Storms Of Life?

(Mark 4:35–41)

This week, Pastor David reminded us that Jesus is with us, even in the storms of our lives.

  • Do you find yourself being concerned with worst-case scenarios? How does following Jesus transform the worst-case scenarios and "what-ifs" of your life?
  • Pastor David said that not every storm is the result of disobedience. Storms can come when we are obeying Jesus. Can you think of a time when you have experienced storms and have been in God’s will at the same time? Explain.
  • Jesus slept peacefully in the boat because He knew the storm could not overcome Him. Followers of Jesus can have that same peace because He IS our peace. When have you experienced this peace?
  • Pastor David shared that our ultimate destination is a place where the storms of life are permanently ceased. How do you feel about that promise?

ADDITIONAL DISCOVERY:

On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

~ John 16:33

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

 ~ Revelation 21:1–4
