The Gift of Generosity
2 Corinthians 8

This week, Pastor David continued the sermon series Faithful Together. In this message, he shared two truths about giving:

  • We must give ourselves to the Lord.
  • We must give in response to the grace of our Lord.

GOING DEEPER:

• How we view and what we do with our financial resources is a deeply spiritual matter. Our finances are a window into our souls. How are you tempted to “silo” this part of your life?

• Pastor David explained that to give generously we must first give ourselves to the Lord. In light of all God has given us in and through Jesus, our only true response should be to offer our all to Him. Does Jesus have all of you? Is Jesus the Lord of your mind and your affection? Is He the Lord of your goals, words, and actions? Is He the Lord of your heart, mind, past, and future? Is He the Lord of your joys and sorrows? Is He the Lord of your time, talents, family, and finances?

• God’s grace fuels us to live a life of generosity. This is the family tree of generosity: grace births gratitude, and gratitude births generosity. His grace saves us, sustains us, and sanctifies us. It is God’s grace that transforms us to look more like our heavenly Father, who is generous. How have you found this to be true in your own life? Describe.

• True generosity always leads us outside of our comfort zone. The believers in the Macedonian churches did not give out of abundance or excess. They gave in the midst of affliction and poverty. They were willing to give up something so that others would be blessed. How can you change your schedule this week to spend more time thanking God for His grace and praying for the leadership of God’s Spirit as you make your commitment to Faithful Together?
