Sermon Title: Faith’s Humble Plea

Scripture: Mark 7:24–30

This week, Pastor David continued the sermon series from the Gospel of Mark.

  • We can learn many lessons from the faith of the woman in this story. Name two things that you learned as a result of studying this passage.
  • Pastor David described the woman as a model on how to approach the infinite Son of God which is to 1) approach Jesus humbly and 2) approach Jesus expectantly.
    • Humbly – When are you tempted to think God loves you based on your performance or owes you something because of what you have done? What do you need to change (attitude or action) in order to embrace life as a gift of sheer grace?
    • Expectantly – How are you tempted to live in self-sufficiency? Do you sometimes pray with your fingers crossed behind your back? Is it easy for you to ask God in intervene in your life as the woman in this passage did?
  • Prayerlessness is a sign of pridefulness. What are the circumstances in your life that tempt you to make your own plans instead of turning to God?

PRAYER PROMPTS:

1.   Pray for our leaders as they make decisions and recommendations.

2.   Pray for scientists and health care professionals as they work with those that are ill and as they seek ways to treat the virus.

3.   Pray for the sick and vulnerable.

4.   Pray for missionaries in areas of the world where the virus is widespread.

5.   Pray for ways to help those in your area that are vulnerable.

ADDITIONAL DISCOVERY:

May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you!

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you! The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; let all the ends of the earth fear him!

 ~ Psalm 67

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  ~ Isaiah 41:10
