Sermon Title: The Good Shepherd

Scripture: Psalm 23

 

This week, Pastor David began a new sermon series, “Walking In God’s Will”, with a message from Psalm 23. He looked at 5 attributes of God, the Good Shepherd:

  1. God Knows His Sheep (v. 1)
  2. God Provides For His Sheep (vv. 1–2)
  3. God Guides His Sheep (v. 3)
  4. God Walks With His Sheep (v. 4)
  5. God Ensures The Safe Arrival Of His Sheep (vv. 5–6)

Going Deeper:

 

1.    In the time of David, the job of a shepherd was considered a dirty, lowly job. What surprises you most about God choosing to be our Shepherd? Explain.

2.    How does God keep you “free from fear, friction, flies, and hunger”? How is He providing what you need to lie down in green pastures in your life right now?

3.    Because shepherds could not eliminate all the potential dangers to their sheep, they always guided and walked with their sheep. How does the idea of the Shepherd’s rod being an instrument of protection give you comfort? How has God’s constant guidance and presence encouraged you in your most difficult paths?

4.    Pastor David said that the knowledge, provision, guidance, and presence of God, our Shepherd, leads to intimacy in our relationship with Him. What is most comforting as you think about a future in your eternal home, with your Shepherd? Describe.
