The Feeding Of The 5000
John 6:1–15
This week, Dr. David Eldridge continued the series from the Gospel of John. In these verses, he expanded on two points:
- We will face problems in life that overwhelm our strength, so that we will learn to rely on our Savior whose strength never fails.
- What we place in the hands of Jesus, He always multiplies.
GOING DEEPER:
-
Pastor David shared that in verses 1–7, Jesus is teaching a fundamental truth of discipleship: We will face problems in life that overwhelm our strength, so that we will learn to rely on our Savior whose strength never fails. Philip looked at the crowd and saw scarcity. Jesus saw a feast waiting to happen. When you face a situation too great to handle, how can you trust Jesus’ authority, not your own?
-
Pastor David shared that we have an incomparable Savior who always multiplies what we place in His hands (verses 8–13). God delights in using the insufficient to accomplish the unimaginable. This story isn’t about the provision but about the Provider. God never sees human lack as an obstacle to accomplish His divine work. The real question is not, “Do I have enough to give?” but “Will I trust Him with what I have?” How would you answer this question? Will you open your hand rather than close your fist around your time and resources?
- When Jesus supplies, it is never too little. He never runs out. Jesus’ love always goes above and beyond. What we offer will never be enough for the task before us. The good news is God never calls us to provide but to commit whatever we have. How have you experienced the truth that when we are faithful with the addition, God takes care of the multiplication? How can you trust God with the “little things” you have to give as you face the week ahead?
