Job Description:

Dawson Memorial Baptist Church seeks an enthusiastic and talented full time videographer and photographer to join our team in the role of Videography and Photography Manager. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability and eagerness to create videos and capture photos that convey Dawson’s vision and mission in authentic and meaningful ways. This role is primarily a videographer position. Preference will be given to candidates with photography skills. Additional skills such as graphic design, social media, marketing, and animation will also be considered. This position will work closely with the Communications Director on a wide range of projects. Qualified candidates should submit their resume and a sample of their work to Shannon Lindsay, Dawson’s Communications Director, at slindsay@dawsonchurch.org.

 

Responsibilities:


  • Shoot, edit, and produce videos, from short clips to long-form storytelling, for Dawson’s website, social media platforms, email communications, advertisements, special events, meetings, presentations, and other media as needs arise.
  • Generate high-quality videos and photographs that help tell the story of Dawson’s programs, people, events, and other offerings.
  • Receive and manage all church video and photography requests. Schedule, organize, and manage video and photo shoots. Maintain a video and photo shoot calendar. 
  • Contribute to the church’s videography needs via storyboard concepts, film and conduct interviews, gather necessary b-roll footage, and edit videos and various other tasks as required. 
  • Work to ensure all videography and photography created by Dawson’s staff meets the church's communication standards and needs.  
  • Attentively archive and organize valuable photography and video assets for reuse in future projects. 
  • Maintain all videography and photography gear and equipment. 
  • Other administrative tasks and duties as assigned by the Communications Director.

 

Minimum Work Experience and Education Requirements:


  • 2+ years of experience in filmmaking with demonstrated competency in videography, cinematography and editing.
  • Film degree or equivalent experience including an extensive understanding of the filmmaking process.
  • Film portfolio available online displaying a wide range of mediums, skills and subjects available online.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud. 
  • Professional photography experience not required, but preferred.
  • Graphic design and photo editing not required, but preferred. 
  • Previous experience working in a church setting is a plus.

 

Essential Skills and Abilities:


  • Ability to expertly operate high-level video cameras, microphones, and lighting.
  • Ability to lead the production of a video project from pre-production to post-production delivery.
  • Demonstrated competency with film color correction and grading.
  • Mastery of camera exposure with experience setting up interview style lighting in different environments.
  • Enthusiasm for a variety of styles and a commitment to quality work across genres. 
  • Able to balance multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to prioritize workload, remain organized, and over-communicate project progress and completion dates.
  • Must be dependable, respectful, self-motivated, adaptable, efficient, and personable. 
  • Must be able to work well with a wide range of people, including various staff and volunteer ministry teams. 
  • Must be comfortable working both independently and with our collaborative team of creative professionals. 
  • Must employ a deep respect and appreciation for our various audiences and their interests and habits. 
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and interpersonal skills relating well to all kinds of people.  
  • Must be able to receive constructive criticism well. 
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule. Regular hours will be Monday-Friday, approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but some evening and weekend hours will be required including one Sunday a month.
