What's Happening

STEWARDSHIP 2024

Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord. 1 Chronicles 29:9

The people rejoiced because they had given?! Really? To understand this year’s theme verse for our stewardship emphasis, it is necessary to look at the context of the verse. King David was making preparations for his son Solomon to build the temple. David had accumulated a great amount of wealth, and he gave abundantly from all of his resources and personal treasures. Following David’s example, the people also gave generously, freely, and wholeheartedly. How were David and all of the people able to give willingly with a whole heart? They understood that all they had (and all we have) is from God. Verse 14 says, “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” (NIV)

When my husband and I were first married, we tithed out of obedience but not with a whole heart. In a Bible study several years later, we studied these same verses from 1 Chronicles. We learned that all we have comes from God and belongs to Him. We are simply stewards. God has given us not just material and financial gifts but also the free gift of grace and salvation. When we grasp how much God has lavished upon us, then we, like David and the Israelites, can freely offer our gifts back to Him.

October Memory Verse

When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

Alice Harris' Retirement Announced

Alice Harris, our beloved Church Receptionist, will retire on December 31, 2023. Ms. Alice joined the Dawson Staff in August 1993 and has served our church faithfully for over 30 years. Ms. Alice is passionate about people, which is evident in all that she does. She is often the first person that people see when they come here during the week, and Ms. Alice welcomes everyone with warm hospitality. Words cannot express how much the children love her! Another way that Ms. Alice has served our church so well is through the thousands of calls to members who are sick or grieving the loss of a loved one. She is intentional about reaching out and praying for them. While we will miss seeing Ms. Alice every day, we look forward to her continuing to be an active church member. She is a leader in her Life Group, serving alongside others with her gentle spirit and loving presence. Please join us in celebrating Ms. Alice’s faithful ministry to the Dawson Family of Faith.

Christmas for a Child

Every year, Dawson members and Life Groups provide Christmas gifts for over one hundred children. This year is no exception; however, the ministry details have changed to be able to provide for more children. Here are the details:

  • This year, children from our Kids Connection ministry will be the recipients of your newly purchased gifts.
  • There will be 13 different size and age-group lists for you to consider.
  • These shopping lists will be located in the Sanctuary Foyer throughout October.
  • Simply follow the instructions on your list and return the new gifts to the Gathering Room (1st Floor North) anytime from now until November 30.

Please note that multiple children may receive the items you purchase instead of a single individual. For more information, contact Ben Hale at bhale@dawsonchurch.org.
