What's Happening

STEWARDSHIP 2024

Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord. 1 Chronicles 29:9

When I was a young adult, I tithed but it was more as an act of obedience. Because of that, there were times I saw tithing as what I was giving up. Over the years, God’s opened my eyes and my heart to see His work in my life – the things He’s done that I know only He gets the credit for and it’s changed that heart attitude.
1 Chronicles 29:9 talks about giving freely and wholeheartedly and the result of that type of giving being rejoicing. When we recognize that everything we have (our work, our intelligence, our talents and creativity, our families and our possessions) is FROM GOD, it changes how we think about giving back to Him. Instead of giving to God being giving up something else, it’s out of gratitude for what He has provided for us. When my focus is on gratitude and I don’t hold back but give freely, it does cause me to rejoice.
As we approach our time of Commitment, let’s rejoice as we give freely and wholeheartedly recognizing all God has provided. Commitment Cards will be collected November 5 through December 31 or you can make your commitment online at dawsonchurch.org/commitment.

November Memory Verse

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

Ad Hoc Team Update: Sanctuary Renovations

The Ad Hoc Team for Sanctuary and Adjacent Space Renovations has worked diligently over the summer to finalize construction documents. These documents were revised in late Spring after the Ad Hoc Team took the project through a value engineering process. The documents were then completed at the end of July 2023. In August, Hoar Construction submitted the drawings to sub-contractors for pricing. In September, the Ad Hoc Team met with Hoar Construction to review the cost of this design. After careful examination, it was determined that while we have a great design, the overall cost of the project is more than our budget considerations.

We have decided to delay the capital campaign that was slated for January 2024 and construction will not begin in May 2024 as we had hoped. At this point, we do not know how long the delay will be. The Ad Hoc Team will continue to work with the designers and Hoar Construction to present a project that meets our needs at a cost that works within our financial expectations. Further updates will be shared with the Deacons and the church family throughout this process.

Christmas for a Child

Every year, Dawson members and Life Groups provide Christmas gifts for over one hundred children. This year is no exception; however, the ministry details have changed to be able to provide for more children. Here are the details:

  • This year, children from our Kids Connection ministry will be the recipients of your newly purchased gifts.
  • There will be 13 different size and age-group lists for you to consider.
  • These shopping lists will be located in the Sanctuary Foyer throughout October.
  • Simply follow the instructions on your list and return the new gifts to the Gathering Room (1st Floor North) anytime from now until November 30.

Please note that multiple children may receive the items you purchase instead of a single individual. For more information, contact Ben Hale at bhale@dawsonchurch.org.

Thanks to the power of a simple shoebox, millions of children will hear the Gospel this year. Stop by the table in the Foyer to pick up a brochure and a flat shoebox. You can also pick up brochures and boxes at the Church Office on weekdays. All prepared shoeboxes must be turned in at the display table in the Sanctuary Foyer on or before November 12.
