Intentional Parenting (Chapel)

“I just don’t know any more options to try in terms of discipline.”
“I am afraid I lost it with my son last night.”
“How am I supposed to find time to enjoy them when we’re just so busy?”
“Most parenting books I read just leave me feeling really overwhelmed.”
Being a free parent. Parenting out of love and not out of fear. Spending real time, connected, engaged time with your son or daughter with no iPhones, iPads, or i-anything-in-between. These are a few of the ideas we talk about in this seminar. It is one born out of countless conversations we have had with parents over the years — conversations where they’re wanting to talk about how to be more consistent, patient, connected, balanced, free, in a word, more intentional, with their children of all ages. This seminar is our response. In it, we give specific ideas on:

• being a consistent parent
• being a patient parent
• being a connected parent
• being a balanced parent
• and, finally, what it looks like to be free.

Regardless of their age, your children look to you to help them discover who you are. This time will help you do just that. You are growing right alongside them. Our hope is that you will leave this seminar refreshed with humor, truth and grace and more confident to parent with all of the love, mercy and intentionality with which God continues to parent you. Understanding you. Understanding your child.

2:30-3:30 p.m. (2 Sessions Available, Please Choose One)

The Back Door To Your Teens Heart (Sanctuary)

How was your day? Fine. What'd you do in school today? Nothing. Countless parents of teenagers tell us it feels as if someone took their child, in the middle of the night, and replaced them with an alien who looks identical.

If you have a child nearing the teenage years, or in the midst of them, you've already had this conversation...probably countless times. How do you get past it? How do you help them navigate the teenage years when they keep shutting the door as soon as you walk upstairs? How do you connect with them in a way that enables you to really connect with them in these last few years you have left? This class offers a paradigm shift for parents. You will leave this class equipped with:

  • ways to get past the one word answers
  • ideas of how to connect, even when they seem disinterested
  • discipline and responsibility strategies that mature as your child does

The Back Door to Your Teen's Heart is, we believe, a disarming approach to find your way back to the child you used to know, and draw out and even enjoy who they are becoming. Join us for this time to talk, laugh and encourage each other on this tumultuous journey of raising teens.

How to Talk to Kids About Sex (Chapel)

“When should I start the conversation?”

“I don’t want my kids to hear about things first from another source.”

“My nine year old stumbled into something on the internet. How do I address this?”

“How much information is too much information?”

“My parents never talked to me about sex. I don’t have a blueprint for any kind of conversation.”

These are questions and comments we’ve heard from hundreds of parents over the years. Most parents at this time in history didn’t grow up with a healthy, ongoing dialogue about sexuality and physical development. The idea of stepping into this conversation with our kids feels a bit like traveling across the country with no GPS. Our kids desperately need education in this arena. We’ll come together to talk around 8 important ideas for shaping a healthy, age-appropriate conversation with our kids about their growing bodies, the changes they will experience, and how/when to talk about sex.

Are My Kids on Track? (Chapel)

From birth to adulthood, our children's physical and intellectual development is carefully tracked and charted. But what about their hearts? After all, how our children develop emotionally, socially, and spiritually will determine who they become as husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, friends and co-workers.

Are My Kids on Track? helps you identify and measure emotional, social, and spiritual milestones in your children's lives. Moreover, you will discover practical ways to guide your kids through any stumbling blocks they might encounter and help them reach the appropriate landmarks. Along the way, David, Sissy and Melissa pinpoint the different ways boys and girls develop, so you can help your child flourish in his or her own way.

Filled with decades of experience from three practicing counselors, this seminar will provide you with valuable, practical and relatable information to make sure your child is growing not just in body, but in heart. Join us for a time to be equipped in truth, encouraged in love...and to laugh at least a little along the way.
