The Coming Of The King

Matthew 21:1–11

This week, Pastor David shared the story of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem from the Gospel of Matthew. He showed us:

  1. The Humility Of The King
  2. The Victory Of The King

GOING DEEPER:

  • Contrary to the expectations and hopes of the first century Jewish worshippers on Palm Sunday, Jesus came as a humble and gentle King. As you allow Him to reign in your life, He produces the counter-cultural witness of humility, gentleness, and peace. In what area of your life is He working to rid you of your pride and arrogance? Explain.
  • While the Passover crowds thought they were witnessing a victory parade, they were actually watching a funeral march. Jesus' ultimate victory was in His death. His crown was a crown of thorns, and the only sword He knew was the sword of the Roman soldier that pierced His side. Why, as believers, do we rejoice in that funeral march?
  • Pastor David shared a quote by John Piper: “God is always doing 10,000 things in your life, and you may be aware of three of them.” Think about a time when you didn't get something you thought you wanted or needed. How are you encouraged by knowing that God is working in ways you cannot always see or understand?
