Acts: Light

Acts 9:1–19

This week, Pastor David continued the series from Acts with a look at three scenes from the life of Saul.

Scene One: Wandering In Darkness (verses 1–2)

Scene Two: Blinded By The Light (verses 3–9)

Scene Three: Welcomed Into A Family (verses 10–19)

  • Reflecting on Saul’s story in Acts 9, Pastor David said that our earnestness about a goal is not enough; we can be zealous and be wrong. Have you ever found yourself fully committed to the wrong thing? What happened?
  • One of the beautiful things about this passage is God's initiative and pursuit of Paul. God is the one who seeks after sinners and gives them grace to respond to His pursuit. Pastor David described the blinding light as Saul being "arrested by God." Explain a time when God has gotten your attention with His pursuit of you.
  • Our salvation is not a personal achievement. We search after God because He first searched for us. Our Good Shepherd does not give up. When are you tempted to think you can earn your salvation or add anything to it?
  • Imagine what Ananias must have felt like as God sent him to minister to the man that was planning to kill him. How do you respond when God prompts you to engage with people and circumstances that seem hopeless? What encouragement can you take from these verses for those encounters?

"The Hound Of Heaven" by Francis Thompson

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.
