The Biblical Command We Often Forget

1 Thessalonians 5:1–11

This week, Dr. Gary Fenton, Senior Advancement Officer at Beeson Divinity School, shared a message from 1 Thessalonians about the need for Christians to encourage one another.

GOING DEEPER:

  • Why was Paul reminding the church at Thessalonica of the need to encourage each other?
  • Think about people in your Christian life that have been encouraging to you. What specifically did they do that encouraged you?
  • Dr. Fenton shared Jesus' explanation (from John 14–16) about the Holy Spirit coming as a "paraclete" or helper. When we encourage each other, we are allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us. How are you encouraged by the presence of the Holy Spirit working in and through you?
  • Encouraging each other is the key to living a vibrant Christian faith. Discouragement often leads to giving in to temptation. Who do you know that needs to be encouraged this week? Will you commit to follow the Spirit's leadership and encourage that person?

The grace of the LORD Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. ~ 2 Corinthians 13:14
