Acts: Samaria

Acts 7:58–8:8

This week, Pastor David continued the sermon series on the book of Acts with a look at how God uses detours to accomplish His purposes.

  • Pastor David said that detours will take you off the road that you were planning on traveling. They will almost always take you a longer way, but ultimately get you to your destination. What detour occurred in these verses?
  • In this passage, we see the first large scale persecution of Jewish Christians, who left not only their physical home but also their spiritual home. How did God use that persecution to accomplish His purposes?
  • The Bible never gets tired of this refrain: what humans mean for evil, God often uses for good and for redemption. How has God redeemed the detours in your life?
  • Pastor David said, "The cross of Jesus is a testimony to God’s ability to transform the most heinous acts of evil ever committed and redeem them as the very source of salvation for all of us who would turn to Him." How are you encouraged by the truth that God is sovereign over all the details of your life, even when you find yourself on a detour? Explain.

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24–26
