Sermon Title: The Hope Of An Empty Tomb

Scripture:  Mark 15:42–16:8

This week, Pastor David concluded the sermon series from the Gospel of Mark by looking at two days described in the final two chapters.

  • It’s Friday: All Hope Seems Lost
  • It’s Sunday: Eternal Hope Is Found

Going Deeper:

  • Pastor David said that, often, we can’t fix our “Fridays” or those of others, but we can do the next right thing for our neighbor, co-worker, family member or friend. Who do you know that is in the middle of a “Friday” right now? What is the next right thing you can do for them?
  • In Mark 16, the female followers of Jesus were the first evangelist/missionariesthe first to tell the story of the resurrection. In the Jesus Storybook Bible, Sally Lloyd Jones describes how she sees Mary reacting to the good news about Jesus. How do you imagine yourself, in Mary’s place, telling the amazing good news?
  • Pastor David gave us three reasons that we can trust in the truth of Jesus’ resurrection: the fact of the empty tomb, the appearances of the resurrected Christ, and the establishment of the church. How can you use one or more of these reasons to talk to someone who doesn’t believe the reliability of the Bible?
  • Pastor David shared that the power of the resurrection continues to propel us through the “Fridays” of our lives. Whatever you feel or whatever circumstance you face, the power of the resurrection is more powerful. How can you encourage others with this truth?

Additional Discovery:

Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
