What Happens Later

Luke 7:11–17

This week, Dr. Joshua Del Risco, Pastor of Iglesia Bautista Vida Nueva in Fultondale, shared a message from Luke. We were reminded

  • Jesus has compassion for the widow. (vv.12–13)
  • Jesus approaches the widow in her need. (v.14)
  • Jesus sent forth his word in the midst of the widow’s need. (v.14)
  • Jesus blesses the widow according to her need. (v.15)

GOING DEEPER:

  • Pastor Joshua shared that Jesus’ presence demands action (Nicodemus, the Woman from Samaria, the Rich Young Ruler). In His presence, something wonderful always happens. What actions have you taken as a result of the presence of Jesus in your life?
  • In Luke 7:11–17, Jesus both “saw” (had total and complete knowledge) and had “compassion” on (felt her pain) the widow who lost her son. Jesus still sees us, has compassion on us, and loves us (1 Peter 5:7). How does this truth from God’s work intersect with the difficulties you face in this season of your life?
  • While Jesus could have healed the young man by just His spoken word, He touched the coffin instead making Himself unclean by Jewish law. He became unclean for us as well (John 1:1; 14), taking our sin and shame on the cross. How does this beautiful good news give you both joy and hope?
  • Jesus gave the young man back to his mother. Jesus never does anything halfway: And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). Are you in the “procession” of joy with Jesus or in the “procession” of despair without Him?

The grace of the LORD Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. ~ 2 Corinthians 13:14
